Portugal
Travel to the fairy tale
Sintra is one of those places in which there are a lot of magic and mystery and which create a magnificent symbiosis of a landscape of great cultural significance. Yard and aristocrats erected here, along the ridge, luxurious manors and mansions, surrounded by gardens and parks. The city was founded in 1154.
Prior to this, there was the fortress of the same name.
Sintra and the surrounding area are a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to the numerous attractions in the area.
In the city itself is the National Palace of Sintra, and in the adjacent mountain forest park (Serra de Sintra) - the Palace of Pena and the dilapidated Moorish Castle.
Not far from the city is the refined Montserrat Palace and the Capuchin Monastery.
The old Moorish city with the fortress, which King Afonso I took in 1147, already in the Middle Ages served as the summer residence of Portuguese kings. In Sintra is the famous estate of Quinta da Regaleira, in whose territory is the Palace of Regaleira and a beautiful park - a tourist attraction of Portugal, which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
From Sintra to the sea a tram line is laid, which is also a "living" museum, since it has old trams built over a hundred years ago.
