Bridge on the Dachstein glacier, Austria
The Dachstein Glacier is one of the best and popular ski resorts in Austria, the northern part of which is covered with glaciers, and the southern part is cut off by almost vertical rocks. The highest peak of the glacier reaches 2995 m.
Located on the territory of just three Austrian lands - Upper Austria, Salzburg and Styria, the Dachstein mountain range is twelve thousand two thousand "equipped" with large glaciers, which allow you to ski all year round. The peak of the massif, which ascended to a height of 3000 meters, is a tasty morsel for rock climbers, and lovers of natural attractions enjoy a dizzying view of the Austrian Alps from the Dahstein viewing platform and inspect two magnificent caves - the Ice and Mammoth. Still here is an amazing Ice Palace, built right in the thickness of the glacier - so that the impressions of Dahstein's visit are abundant enough for the whole family.
The center of the Dachstein region is a small town of Ramsau am Dachstein, located on the southern side of the massif, in the federal state of Styria, at an altitude of 1200 meters above sea level. The nearest airport is in Salzburg (90 km), other air hubs in the region - Graz, 190 km from Ramsau and Munich in 220 km. By rail it is most convenient to get to Schladming, from where long distance buses go to Ramsau. Among other things, Schladming can be reached by bus from the major cities of Austria, and in the region itself there is an extensive network of municipal routes.
Most recently (July 2013), the opening of the highest suspension bridge in Austria (Dachstein SkyWalk Bridge), which is located in the Dachstein mountain range.
At an altitude of 2700 m above sea level, there are ski runs everywhere, where you can ski all year round. Here, too, is the bridge itself and a clear viewing platform, which seemed to hang over the precipice between sheer cliffs at a 250-meter height. But it is built into the rock. Here it is also called the "balcony in the Alpine mountains." From this balcony and opens a magnificent circular panorama of the snow-capped Alpine mountain peaks.
The bridge is 100 meters long. The bridge connects the famous unique attraction "Ice Palace" with the glacier itself. This place is ideal for those who want to check their nerves and courage, among other things, there are strong winds blowing here.
A visit to the suspension bridge costs 3 euro for adults. Children are free. This cost includes a visit to the Ice Palace, which connects the new bridge with the glacier. But the most exciting attraction is the continuation of the bridge - a small glass platform hovering over the Dachstein mountain range at an altitude of 400 m. There is a ladder with 14 narrow steps - a "ladder to nowhere" - only for the bravest visitors of the bridge.
Perhaps that's why all these exciting moments made the bridge one more attraction on the glacier, which attracts a huge number of tourists.
The Austrian resort has opened a new attraction for fans of thrills. Suspension bridge and a glass platform, from which a magnificent view of the Alps opens, but with such sky-high heights that only the boldest will probably venture to test their character.
A unique attraction - the ice palace leads its visitors directly into the interior of the Dachstein glacier. It gives a tremendous opportunity to penetrate the mysterious, hidden world of the glacier - and it's only three minutes walk from the Dachstein lift, all the year round and in any weather, even in the heat!
During a circular walk deep in the bosom of the glacier, which also turns into huge halls-niches, visitors are waiting for fascinating attractions, such as "Throne Room", "Crystal Cathedral" and "Blue Salon." Impressive portals of the columns and rich, elegant decoration were performed for several weeks by hand by Chinese masters on the work with ice. The ice palace itself was built for a year, and as a result, this mysterious, striking space of ice, light and sound appeared. Especially impressive is the throne room. It reproduced the famous portal of the Greek Acropolis. And even the floors in the aisles of the palace are made of ice.
