The Uzunja River Canyon
Uzundja Canyon is the Grand Canyon of Crimea in miniature only there are almost no people here. In the depths of the canyon from under the rock the water of one of the most powerful springs of the Crimea is knocked out.
It is comparable only with Pania in the Grand Canyon and Karasu-Bash near Belogorsk. The Skelsky spring enlivens Uzundzhu, which is already completely dry and went under the rocks. So the Black River begins. To the right of the road is the mountain Kara-Dag ("Black Mountain"). The dark needles of the juniper make all the local mountains "black". You can go through the beautiful narrow canyon of Uzundji to the source of Suuk-Su, which is located at an altitude of 768 meters above sea level. The trip is easy, there are many impressions. True, in several places you will have to wade or jump over the rocks, and then again there will be a normal path to the spring and the cave of Uzundja, which is better not to look at. Its depth is 1500 meters but it will have to creep crawl into narrow corridors, many of which are flooded at the slightest rise in the water level. It is safer to visit Skelskaya cave, which is located near the beginning of the canyon.
It is interesting to pass and above the source with the cave, especially in the spring, when the Uzunja Canyon is full of water. To save energy (so as not to jump from shore to shore and not to slap on the water) you will have to go, basically, along the upper path. Places are deserted, wild. Many flowers, rookery deer, roe deer, traces of wild boars, foxes, hares are visible ... You can see kites, hawks - they have someone to hunt! This is one of the few places where you can still not meet a single person for the whole day!
The path leads to a nameless twelve-meter waterfall with a cascade. The bottom of the river is lined, as if cemented, with yellow and pink tuffolite, which gives color to the river itself. There are several small lakes with moss-covered boulders on their way.
Among the many roads left by the Romans in Tauris, three are known here, long ago turned into convenient and reliable trails on the Ai-Petrinskaya Yail and the Devil's Staircase.
One leads from the outskirts of the village of Orlinoy, the other from the village of Kalendi, which is at the foot of the mountain of the same name, the third - from Skeli.
Roman roads in these places were preserved well, because life accustomed the Crimean Khan to diplomacy. Collect tribute from the poor inhabitants of the valley - an ungrateful occupation, the benefits of it is not enough. Therefore, instead of the quitrent, the khan charged them with the duty of caring for the roads.
Now at the foot of the mountain, in front of the Uzundzhi canyon, among the trees and tall grass are built hotel cottages. Rising into this canyon, to the left is seen the juniper-grown Kurt-Kaya mountain (Spider's rock). It is separated from the road by Usunja, which is dry in summer; On this hill there is a path, reinforced by rectangular slabs cut down in the rock-crepes, to the source of Ai-Dimitri.
